ISLAND CONTINENT MOTO

Island Continent Moto : an exciting new department /service is being set up with the motorbike tourist in mind.

In the past Madagascar was known in the motorbike world mainly for enduro trips, as even the main roads were fit only for all terrain bikes. Now the main roads have been rebuilt, making it possible to tour comfortably by motorbike. Before you think Harley or Goldwing…….some interesting destinations are off the main roads, on dirt tracks driveable only by 4WD. So something special is needed.

This brings us to the equipment that available :

-Six 1990’s BMW R100GS PD. Yes the "old" one with the aircooled flat-twin, long travel suspension and 35liter tank. Obviously not new, let’s say nicely run in, with all bits needing attention such as gearboxes, cardans, cylinderheads etc, replaced or overhauled. Comfortable 2-up with luggage, long-legged, but still light, tough, and simple enough to operate on dirt tracks.

-Two Honda XR400R with 22liter Acerbis tank. Single seat . Simple, light, tough. If you want to travel where even 4wd suffer and try some real dirt!

All formulas possible : from basic hire to organised tours.

History : 30 years ago I bought my first BMW Boxer motorbike, a R75/6. Toured all over Europe, used it daily, became hooked by the flat-twin. A BMW R100RS followed : great for fast touring, tiring to drive slowly, a GS began to make sense. Years later, after having lived on 4 continents and worked in 30 countries my job brought me to Madagascar. Loved the place. Stayed. Explored the country by 4wd , discovered the joy of riding bikes on dirt tracks. Always wanted an all-road flat-twin GS, but in Europe there are just not enough dirt tracks. Madagascar ? Ideal!

Status : ICMoto company has been set up, workshop/garage up and running, all bikes are in top shape. Two more R100GS are being prepared by the GS experts at BoxerToko.
